While he may have started his career as a mosquito assassin (yes, really), today Derik ranks as one of the top three male lash artists and educators in the world.

His journey into the lash world wasn't planned. When his wife Jess-Founder of Locks Lash and Academy Director of Learn About Beauty-launched the business in 2012, Derik jumped in to help answer phones and manage orders. One thing led to another... and soon he was travelling across the world teaching lash students face-to-face.

Fast forward to today: Derik has trained over 8,000 students, delivered workshops at some of the world's biggest beauty events (LashCon LA, Beauty Expo Australia, Lash Boss Summit, and more), and built a reputation as one of the most respected lash educators in the industry.

At Learn About Beauty, Derik brings his laser-sharp expertise to the online classroom-helping students across the globe understand the science behind beauty, troubleshoot tricky subjects and making students be the best they can be.

He's particularly known for his deep knowledge of lash glue (yes, there's a lot to know) and the science of retention. Students love him not only for his nerdy lash facts-but also for his generous, approachable teaching style.

But Derik's true passion? Helping women rise. He's committed to empowering women in the beauty industry to find their voice, grow their confidence, and succeed in both business and life.
